Bobrova Raľa

In the Orava village of Podbiel there is the largest preserved complex of folk architecture in Central Europe called Bobrova Raľa. The village is made up of original wooden houses, which, together with the surrounding alpine nature, give the environment a picturesque character, almost as if from a fairy tale. There are up to 64 wooden houses from the end of the 19th century.

In the past, it was not an exception if two families lived in wooden houses, which shared a kitchen and a den. Although it is unimaginable for most people today, a large part of the wooden houses are still inhabited, often serving as accommodation for tourists. After booking, it is possible to move freely. Nearby there is a small ethnographic museum collecting objects from people’s lives at the turn of the century and also providing space for local carvers to work.
