Černohronská railway

Černohronská railway is a narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 760 mm. Its construction began in 1908, and the first trains left a year later. In its heyday, after the Second World War, it had a length of almost 132 km. It also played an important role during the Slovak National Uprising in 1944, when it served to supply partisans in the mountains. Even thanks to her, the Germans never conquered Čierna Balog.

With the advent of motorization, its importance gradually weakened until in 1982, operations were completely stopped even on the last 36 km of the track. All equipment, including rails, locomotives and wagons, was destined for scrapping. Thanks to a group of enthusiasts and former employees, it was entered into the Central State List of Cultural Monuments and it was able to resume operation in 1992. Since then, however, it has been a tourist attraction that continues to develop today and provides visitors with a unique experience not only here, but also in the world.
