Dome of St. Mikuláša

Dome of St. Mikuláša is one of the most distinctive monuments of Trnava. Optically, it stands at the highest point of the city, at the place where the market was located in the Middle Ages. In 2008, the church was declared a Marian pilgrimage site of the Trnava Archdiocese, and a few months later, Pope Benedict XVI. granted the title of basilica minor. In the Dome of St. Services are regularly held on St. Nicholas.

The church itself is a work of art inside and out. In its interior there are numerous frescoes, a stone baptistery and the bell of St. Štefana from the 15th century located in one of the towers. In the baroque chapel in its northern part, there is a Merciful image of the Virgin Mary of Trnava – the patroness of the city of Trnava. According to the witnesses, bloody tears appeared on the painting, with which it warned and protected the inhabitants from the tragic events of 1663 and 1708.
