The East Slovak Gallery is the first regional gallery in Slovakia, located in the baroque-classical County Hall in the center of Košice. It dates back to 1779 and is a great space for exhibiting works of art from the 19th and 20th centuries. The gallery documents art in the East Slovak region, but also an overview of art in Slovakia, especially in the 20th century.
The collections contain more than 6,400 works, which are exhibited in the permanent exhibition Painting of the 19th Century in Eastern Slovakia and in many other temporary or occasional exhibitions. On the ground floor of the building there is a so-called lab for current projects and young art. The halls on the first floor are, in turn, the temporary home of long-term and large-scale exhibition projects.
