The East Slovak Museum is housed in a Renaissance building in the immediate center of Košice. It is one of the oldest and most important museums in Slovakia, managing more than 500,000 objects in the field of natural history, history and art history. Some of the artefacts are exhibited in 9 permanent thematic exhibitions.
The most popular and valuable exhibitions include the so-called Košice’s golden treasure. During construction work in 1935, 2920 gold coins, ducats, two ducats, three gold medals and a Renaissance gold chain were discovered. Since 2018, the museum has been adapted for visually impaired visitors. The Let’s get to know nature through the sixth sense exhibition is proof of this, as all exhibits are freely accessible and can be touched.
