Mikluš’s prison and Kat’s apartment

In the very center of Košice there is an exposition of the East Slovak Museum called Miklušova váznica and Katov’s apartment. The prison building was created by joining two bourgeois houses from the 13th and 14th centuries. century and served as a prison from the 17th century until 1911. In the premises of the famine and torture chamber there is a permanent exhibition of wax figures of the executioner Mikluš, his assistant and their victims.
In the former cells of the prisoners, there are guild monuments and exhibits related to the history of the city, trade and crafts. The executioner’s apartment was probably built in the 17th century, and its exposition contains the original execution swords of the Košice executioners, and visitors can also learn about the history and construction development of this location.
