Morské oko is the largest lake in the Vihorlatské vrchy and, with an area of 13 ha, it is the largest gardened volcanic lake in Slovakia. It has a rugged environment, crystal clear water, western and northern shores with sand and a slight slope. All this makes it an ideal place for relaxation, romantic walks and hiking for the whole family.
The road to Morské oko starts at the parking lot, approx. 1 km away. A walk around the lake can be completed along the marked routes through the Vihorlat forest. However, the surroundings offer far more tourist destinations and you just have to choose according to taste, distance or difficulty. The lake and the surrounding forests are declared a national nature reserve, belong to the UNESCO world natural heritage and are included in the highest 5th level of protection. For this reason, all water activities are strictly prohibited here.
