Today, the ruins of Muráň Castle were once a majestic guard castle built in the 13th century on the Gygánka cliff on the unspoiled Muránská plain. It is currently the third highest castle in Slovakia. It experienced its greatest glory during the life of Mária Széchyová, when it was sumptuously rebuilt and the exuberant life of the Hungarian nobility was led here.

The extensive castle area with the entrance tower has been preserved to this day. In case of favorable weather, visitors can enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding area. The easiest way to the castle is the red tourist sign from the village of the same name Muráň. The journey takes approximately two hours and is part of an educational trail where you can learn more about the castle and the location of the Muránska Planina National Park.
